UEA Takes Delivery of a Vermeer D330x500

Spending on infrastructure projects in New South Wales continues to increase on an annual basis and the workload of UEA’s HDD and Civil Construction divisions continues to grow in line with this demand. Multiple projects of significance for major utilities and large construction companies have been awarded to UEA in recent weeks.

Examples of recently awarded projects have been:

  • HDD ocean outfall in Perth for a major communication carrier
  • A number of significant HDD crossings within the Sydney Water franchise
  • Large water, sewer and stormwater projects for major developers in the Sydney metro region
  • Complex HDD crossings for a major pipeline in the Blue Mountains in NSW

Based on this increase in work volumes, UEA is excited to announce the delivery of another HDD Maxi rig, a Vermeer D330x500. The D330 has 150 tonnes of thrust and is a self-contained unit – a major benefit for the type of work that UEA historically delivers in Sydney and its surrounding areas. The D330 is the third Maxi rig added to the UEA fleet – supplementing its Gallagher 660 and Vermeer D300 – and will allow UEA to run several Maxi rigs concurrently to meet clients’ programmes.

This machine brings UEA’s operational HDD fleet to a total of nine HDD rigs. The new addition to the fleet is currently being prepared for a major HDD crossing due to start in April 2018. UEA plans to utilise the new rig alongside current support equipment on projects across Australia.

With new equipment comes new challenges, and UEA’s commitment to training its staff is paramount in ensuring operational success. Certificate 3’s and 4’s in Drilling Operations are regularly undertaken by HDD staff, as are Certificate 4’s in pipe laying for the civil crews.

UEA’s commitment to state of the art equipment and quality staff is part of the reason behind the company’s success and will always play a major part of UEA maintaining its position in the market.
