Pilot Bore

Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) involves performing a pilot bore with a drill rig connected to steel rods and a drill head that has a locatable beacon at the front. The pilot bore hole is normally surface launched through an entry pit and is completed at the exit/receive pit. As the pilot bore progresses the drill head is guided and monitored for the extent of the prescribed line and depth with respect to the design specifications.

The position of the drill head is monitored either by a walkover guidance orĀ wire line style system.
