Pipe bursting is a trenchless pipe laying technique that replaces the existing host pipe by displacing their fragments into surrounding soil, while simultaneously pulling in the new product pipe.

Rehabilitation or renewal? This is always the question asked when considering pipeline renovations. If renewal is the choice, and if the existing infrastructure is suitable, then pipe bursting should be considered.

Pipe bursting is a trenchless pipe laying technique that replaces the existing host pipe by displacing their fragments into surrounding soil, while simultaneously pulling in the new product pipe. As long as the parent material will fracture under either impact or mechanical pressure, then it can be replaced using pipe bursting. UEA predominantly uses this technique to replace small bore sewer and water mains.

Pipe bursting can be delivered using either pneumatic or hydraulic systems. Size for size and upsizing options are possible – all subject to diameter, depth of cover and ground conditions.
