UEA Trenchless Completed HDD Underbore for the Peppertree Quarry Project

Posted 11 April 2017

The Peppertree Quarry is located approximately 8 kilometres southeast of the New South Wales Tablelands town of Marulan and 175 kilometres southwest of Sydney. The Quarry is a major supplier of hard rock aggregate material for the Sydney and wider NSW construction market producing up to 3.5 million tonnes of aggregates per year.

UEA Trenchless has recently completed an HDD underbore which establishes a drain between the two dams at Peppertree Quarry. UEA originally completed a similar underbore in 2012 at the same location consisting of 130 metres of 355mm PE100 pipe. Since the completion of the initial bore, the dam has reached capacity and required further construction of 130 metres of a singular 450mm PE100 pipe beneath a railway line, linking both dams together. For this underbore UEA utilised the Ditch Witch AT3020 rig after taking into consideration the bore length, pipe material and site conditions. The terrain between and around the entry & exit locations were extremely challenging and required the use of a small boat, a 55T crane and two excavators to facilitate the installation of the pipe.
