The Factory is a development of 22 residential units in a prime location in Leichardt one of Sydney most sort after suburbs. UEA Electrical was approached through the developer Ganellen to implement the electrical construction phase of the high voltage power supply project. The design consisted of installing a padmount substation and supplying the substation with 11000v and delivering 415V with a load of 400A. Given that EnergyAustralia’s current overhead assets were not capable of supplying the huge increase in load to facilitate the development, the design focused on connecting the substation to existing underground high voltage assets located in adjacent Tebbutt Street.
Site specific documentation was developed including safe work method statements, an OH&S management plan and environmental management plan. The initial phase of electrical construction involved trenching within the footpath allocation for 120 metres and installing electrical duct for the cable to pass through. The trenching was followed by an open cut road crossing through Tebbutt Street, Leichardt. Tebbutt Street is RTA infrastructure and also one of the busiest streets in Leichardt; therefore night works were required to minimise disruption to traffic. After landing the substation the next stage was hauling 320 metres of cable and performing two high voltage terminations. Despite the challenges of working in such a densely populated area, the project was completed within the required time frame.
