GPS Mining

To aid in the accuracy of mining UEA have fitted all surface mining machinery with Trimble GPS units to better aid in accurate mining and live data collection. By using GPS mining technology geologists and mine planners can design a flitch (cut) which is downloaded in real-time onto the machine for the operator to follow.

The Trimble GCS900 Grade Control System features a simple visual interface that displays the surface miner’s position relative to the design boundaries and the cutting depth at that position.

The GPS mining unit can be linked to the machine’s hydraulics to automatically bring the surface mining drum to the correct depth and angle for any position inside the design boundary.
