Directors and Senior Management

Andrew Rowlands

Group Managing Director

Andrew is a founding director of the UEA Group and as a Board member is involved with the strategic planning for the Group. Andrew works with the divisional General Managers to oversee the running of the Group and ensure each division is working towards its business plan. He also works with the group accountant to oversee cash-flow and financial planning.

Andrew has a trade background in fitting and machining and has 15 years experience in trenchless technology and over 10 years experience in the mining industry. He has completed studies with the Institute of Company Directors and a Harvard Leadership Program.

Keith Whittaker

Group Director

Keith is a founding director of the UEA Group and as a member of the Board is involved with strategic planning for the Group. Keith has 15 years of experience in trenchless technology and over 10 years in the mining industry. His primary role in the Group is to oversee the Trenchless division from a technical and mechanical perspective as well as being involved with the Civil and Mining division with machine selection and R&D.

Keith has a trade background in plant mechanics which has underpinned the business especially in its formative years. UEA’s focus on plant and plant maintenance has been one of its great successes through his leadership and innovation.

Dominic Hallam

Director

Dominic joined UEA Civil and Mining in 2008 as a Director to lead the business with an innovative approach to Mining and Civil projects.  Dominic's broad practical and technical experience working in all fields within his Plant Mechanic trade were ideal attributes to deliver this new technology to the Australian market. After 15 years experience with Caterpillar, Komatsu and contract work within the mining and construction industries, his skills have enabled the business to evolve as the leading contract surface mining company in the world.

Steven Hopkins

General Manager, Electrical & Trenchless

Steve joined the Trenchless division of the UEA Group of companies in January 1997 after a number of years working in the UK Trenchless market. Steve spent his early UEA days operating & supervising Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) and pipe bursting equipment before becoming the companies first project manager as the business started to grow rapidly on the back of the utilities boom. After a couple of years away managing lining and pipe bursting works for other companies Steve re-joined the UEA Trenchless division in 2005 as the new General Manager. Steve’s formal training in the form of a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) has provided the company with management systems and contract knowledge that has enabled the company to become a major player in its market.

Jason Jurg

General Manager Civil & Mining

Jason joined UEA Civil and Mining in April 2011 as the General Manager. Jason has over 15 years experience having worked in Qld, NT and WA for both major earthmoving and mining houses in senior contracting roles within the mining and civil industries. Jason holds a Degree in Civil Engineering, and a WA Unrestricted Quarry Managers Certificate. Jason’s role is to grow the business whilst overseeing our current operations to ensure we’re delivering outstanding service for zero harm.

John Cousins

Chief Financial Officer

John holds a Degree in Financial Administration and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia. He joined UEA in July 2011, as the Groups' Chief Financial Officer and is also a member of the Board. Prior to joining UEA, John was the Senior Partner of Herries Davidson & Co, Chartered Accountants in Goulburn and in this role was heavily involved with all the financial affairs of UEA since its formation in 1996. John brings to the Group years of financial experience as well as extensive business management experience. In addition to overseeing the general financial records of the Group, John is particularly interested in the development of models for new and existing business ventures and in assisting the Groups' CEO and General Managers with costing and future planning.

Evette Economos

Accountant

Evette joined UEA in July 2011, having previously worked at Herries Davidson & Co, Chartered Accountants in Goulburn for 14 years. Evette holds a Commerce Degree from the Australian National University and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia. In her role she assists the Chief Financial Officer, John Cousins, with the main accounting requirements for the Group as well as coordinating the general financial administration services for the Group.

UEA Trenchless

David Warner

Operations Manager

David joined the UEA Group of companies in April 2010 as Operations Manager of the Queensland Branch of UEA’s Trenchless division bringing a wealth of contacts and local knowledge to the business. David has completed several HDD/Trenchless training courses overseas and comes with 17 years of hands on experience. David’s previous roles were with larger organisations such as Jemena/Alinta within the management team servicing government electrical and water divisions with Trenchless Technology services.

Jonathan de Vos

Project Manager

Jonathan joined UEA Trenchless in January 2008 taking over the role of project manager with the aim of increasing knowledge and engineering experience across the full spread of Horizontal Directional Drilling equipment. Jonathans’ formal training in Industrial Design has helped to provide innovative solutions to the numerous and diverse challenges provided by HDD in an ever growing market. Currently involved with the estimating, setting up and running of our larger rigs, Jonathans’ diverse background continues to provide unique support for innovative projects.

Matthew Crangle

Project Manager

Matthew joined UEA Trenchless in November 2011 to assist in the development of the trenchless division in an ever growing market for HDD within the infrastructure construction industry. Matthew's formal training is in surveying, also bringing with him over 4 years experience in the construction of underground electrical infrastructure and prior overseas experience in construction and demolition.  Matthew is currently involved with estimating, HSEQ and the daily management of the horizontal directional drilling crews.

Jordan Moeser

Project Engineer

Jordan joined UEA Trenchless in May 2010. Jordan brings a wealth of pipe bursting experience with him having previously worked as a Project Supervisor for Veolia Water Network Services - part of the Networks Alliance Water Main renewal program - bursting up to 50km a year. Jordan's formal training as a surveyor combined with a number of years working overseas as a Site Engineer has brought a broad range of experieince to his current position. Jordan is currently working with the UEA pipe bursting and horizontal directional drilling crews.

Peter Hook

Senior Supervisor

Peter joined the UEA Group of companies in 1998 after working in underground mines where he became a very effective drill operator and came to understand the importance of drilling techniques as well as HSEQ systems. Peter bought this experience to UEA where he quickly rose to crew supervisor status running the smaller HDD rigs. In addition, Peter has also been responsible for the operation of a fleet of thrust boring rigs. Peters experience has been recognised by the company and now he heads up the project management team looking after the works in and around the ACT region.

Mark Sullivan

Senior Supervisor

Mark joined UEA in April 2010, bringing with him over 10 years of extensive Horizontal Directional Drilling experience with Jemena, CLM and Laser Drillers. Mark moved into the directional boring industry after 12 years gaining valuable industry experience in Underground Mining in central Queensland. As Senior Supervisor, Mark currently supervises projects with small, medium and large HDD rigs in both Queensland and NSW. His wealth of knowledge in both HDD and all aspects of underground mining brings valuable support to the UEA team.

Damian Foley

General Manager, Communications

Damian joined UEA in Feb 2002 as General Manager, Communications to position UEA as a major player in the Telecommunication market in the Canberra area. Prior to joining UEA Damian had been working in the Telco industry both in Telstra for approximately 13 years and private enterprise for 3 years. This enabled him to gain a wide range of experience in the field from being a Cable Jointer, Copper and Fibre Network Designer, Cable TV Designer, Recoverable Works Manager and Network Integrity Manager.

Experience is one of the key ingredients in the UEA Communications portfolio.

Trevor Mills

Project supervisor

Trevor joined UEA in 2003 and brought with him 25 years of experience in the Telco field working for Telstra and private companies later in his career. Trevor has covered just about every facet of the industry over his career including copper cable jointing mains and distribution, hauling fibre and copper cable, relocation of network assets.

Andrew Evans

Project supervisor

Andrew joined UEA in 2008 and brought with him 15 years of experience in the Telco field working for Telstra and working for himself. Andrew has covered just about every facet of the industry over his career including civil construction, copper cable hauling, (mains and distribution), hauling Optic fibre cable and relocation of network assets.

Steve Simos

Senior Supervisor

In 2005, Steve was one of two employees to join the UEA Group of companies to assist with the starting of UEA Electrical. Steve has been involved in the design and construction distribution works, transmission overhead/underground works, padmount/kiosk substations works, indoor/chamber substation works, asset relocation works and street lighting works. Prior to joining UEA, Steve worked with Integral Energy for 22 years in a variety roles, from trainee electrical draftsman to district designer. As Project Manager - Industrial and Commercial Developments within Integral Energy, Steve was involved in the contestable works and turnkey projects.

Ben Harris

Project Manager

Ben joined UEA Electrical in September 2008 as an Electrical designer for Level 3 ASP works and in October 2009, was offered a new position within UEA Electrical as project manager.  Ben graduated from the University of Wollongong with a Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) and later obtained the degree of Masters of Engineering (Research) for his thesis “Matrix Converter Technology in Doubly-Fed Induction Generators for Wind Generators”. Prior to joining UEA Ben started his professional career with C.J Doyle Contracting Services in as a project engineer where he was involved with two 132kV transmission projects.

Allan Beydoun

Project Manager

Allan Beydoun joined UEA Electrical in October 2010 as Project Manager with a background in construction and over 2 years experience in the residential and commercial sectors. Allan has completed a Bachelor of General Engineering at the University of Technology Sydney incorporating both disciplines of construction and electrical engineering.

Jin Cho

Project Manager

Jin joined UEA in January 2012. As a graduate of University of Technology, Sydney, Jin holds a Diploma and Bachelor of Engineering (Civil/Environmental) and is currently in the process of obtaining a Diploma in Electrical Engineering. Prior to joining UEA Jin worked as a Project Engineer at Taihan Electric Australia, where he was involved in two Extra High Voltage transmission projects in Adelaide (ElectraNet 275kV) and Sydney (Energy Australia 132kV).

Marius Venter

Electrical Designer

Marius joined UEA Electrical in 2009 as an Electrical Design Engineer. Prior to joining UEA Electrical, Marius worked as an Electrical Engineer for a distribution transformer manufacturer. Marius is an under-graduate degree holder in Electrical Engineering and is an integral part of the close knit design team. As part of this team, he has designed and completed design projects in accordance to Integral Energy, Energy Australia and Country Energy regulations.

Qin Feng

Technical Draftsperson (CAD)

Qin joined the UEA Group of companies in October 2010 as a technical drafter for the Electrical Design division. Qin provides clients with high quality technical drawings for a range of electrical infrastructure projects. Qin brings a wide range of experience and knowledge to the business, from her experience working in Australia, New Zealand, China and Japan and is a valued member within a highly technical team.

Andrew Skeet

Plant Manager

Andrew's broad practical and technical experience working in all fields within his Plant Mechanic trade, are ideal attributes to maintain UEA surface mining equipment. Andrew has 15 years experience working in underground and surface mining environments for both mining companies and contractors and has worked on all major equipment brands including Caterpillar, Komatsu, Hitachi and Vermeer. Andrew has held numerous maintenance supervisory positions and completed his certification into Institute of Automotive Mechanical Engineers.

Craig (Alf) Storrie

Project Manager

Alf joined UEA Civil and Mining in August 2011 as Christmas Creek Project Manager. Alf’s formal qualifications include; Restricted Quarry Managers and Shot Firers Certificates, Diploma of Front Line Management in Metalliferous Surface Operations Management and a Cert IV in Workplace Training  and Assessment.

Alf has held both supervisory and managerial positions in the mining industry for over 16 years.  He has extensive knowledge of various earthmoving equipment in relation to load and haul and drill and blast operations, having dealt with this type of equipment for over 22 years.

Bryan O'Meara

Project Superintendent

Bryan is a degree qualified mechanical engineer with a wide variety of experience in plant management in various industries including quarrying, road surfacing and concrete production, and has held positions focusing on quality in the bio-medical industry. Bryan holds a diploma in project management and a certificate in Health and safety. He joined UEA civil and mining in 2008 and has built a valuable level of experience in the operations of continuous surface mining. Bryan’s key focuses are safety in the workplace and continuous improvement through the use of lean manufacturing principles.

Joshua Jordan

Maintenance Superintendent

Joshua originally joined UEA in July 2010 as Maintenance Planner for the Christmas Creek Operation. Joshua’s practical and technical experience within his Plant Mechanic trade coupled with his more recent roles as Parts Interpreter and Maintenance Planner, are ideal attributes to maintain UEA’s surface mining equipment. Josh has over 12 years experience working in the heavy mining environment.

Chris Harper

Project Engineer

Chris Joined UEA Civil and Mining in January 2010 as a project engineer at the Christmas Creek mine site. Chris holds a degree in mechanical engineering, and has worked in the agricultural and HVAC industries. Chris’s experience in drafting and design is very valuable for improving the operation and safety of surface miners. Chris is a highly valued member of the Civil and Mining engineering department.

Ciara O'Sullivan

Project Engineer

Ciara joined UEA Civil and Mining in March 2011. She is a project engineer at Christmas Creek mine site. Ciara is a qualified Civil Engineer who graduated with an honours degree from University College Dublin in 2008. Before working for UEA, she has worked in various roles dealing with and managing earth moving, pipe laying and concrete construction. Ciara’s experience also includes knowledge and use of survey equipment which helps with the management of the GPS units on the surface mining machines on site.

Glen Guest

HSEQ Manager

Glen joined UEA Civil and Mining in April 2011 as the HSEQ Manager. Glen has 6 years experience in the exploration drilling industry, part of which was in Mali, West Africa. 7 years in the Commercial construction industry and 7 years providing professional safety services starting with the state regulator WorkSafe and then with Downer overseeing operational HSEQ requirements in the electrical transmission, Communications, Automation and Electrical installation industries.

Glen specializes in merging systems into useable tools for companies to reach and achieve successful goals also in negotiating and monitoring legislation, providing specific systems reviews to meet compliance. Glen holds multiple qualifications within Safety, Quality, Environment and Training fields along with being a High Risk License assessor within WA.

Tanya Todd

HSEQ Manager

Tanya joined the UEA Group of companies in 2005 initially as Office Manager. Her previous experience on the construction of the M7 Motorway in Sydney with the ABI Group/Leighton JV had given Tanya a good insight into the HSEQ requirements of a construction company. Based on this experience Tanya quickly went about improving the current systems in place at UEA. This insight has quickly become a passion and since starting Tanya has implemented and maintained certified systems that in most cases exceed the relevant standards. Tanya has also attained her Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety during this time.

Danny Hetherington

Group Human Resources Manager

Danny joined UEA Civil and Mining in March 2010 as the Human Resources Manager. Danny who has formal tertiary qualifications in Human Resources is also a Plant Mechanic by trade. Danny’s previous role as HR Manager was in the underground mining environment, a role he held for 4 years. Danny has over 15 years experience within the mining, contracting and labor hire markets.
