UEA AWARDED LARGE HDD PROJECT FOR HUNTER WATER

UEA has been awarded its first HDD contract by Hunter Water. The project is part of the Dudley Charlestown Sewer Carrier Main Upgrade. UEA has been contracted to install 510 metres of 500mm PE in rock at a grade of approx 2% through the Glenrock State Conservation Area.

The wastewater system in Newcastle generally performs very well, however, in the Glenrock SCA the environment can be affected during wet weather as rainwater enters the existing pipes using up capacity and causing overflows. The proposed upgrade works are required to reduce the wet weather overflow impacts on the environment and to cater for future development in the Charlestown/Dudley area.

UEA intends to use the Vermeer D300 x500 HDD rig to complete the works with an expected start date in early March 2009.
